Bastiaan Siemers is specialized in financial law and securities law. He has in-depth knowledge of virtually all aspects of financial supervision and the accompanying Netherlands and European rules and regulations (for example, MiFID II, PSD II, CRD IV, Solvency II, AIFMD, PD/PR, IDD and SFDR). Bastiaan is experienced in almost all types of financial services and financial products.

Specialisation

Bastiaan’s work includes advising financial intermediaries (banks, insurers, financial intermediaries, asset managers, payment services providers, trading venues, pension funds, and investment funds), their clients and opposite parties. Bastiaan frequently assists clients with licensing and registration projects with the Dutch financial supervisory authorities, the AFM and the DNB. If necessary, Bastiaan assists clients in disputes with these supervisory authorities. Specific areas of attention include FinTech, alternative financing, trading venues,  institutional asset management, investment funds, remuneration, and sustainability in the financial sector.

Bastiaan’s securities law expertise includes advising listed companies and their shareholders on listing, de-listing, stock exchange transactions, disclosure of holdings, market abuse as well as shareholder engagement. Bastiaan is particularly experienced in shareholder activism matters.

Work experience

Bastiaan has had more than 20 years’ experience as attorney-at-law with large Netherlands and international law firms. For the first 17 years, Bastiaan practiced with Trenité Van Doorne and its legal successor, Simmons & Simmons. Between 2013 and 2018 Bastiaan worked at Houthoff.
