Bastiaan Siemers is specialized in financial law . He has in-depth knowledge of virtually all aspects of financial supervision and the accompanying Netherlands and European rules and regulations (for example, MiFID II, PSD II, CRD IV, EMIR, Solvency II, AIFMD and IDD). Bastiaan has gained extensive experience with all types of financial services and financial products over the past 20 years.
Bastiaan’s work comprises counselling financial parties (banks, insurers, financial intermediaries, asset managers, payment services providers, trading venues, pension funds, and investment funds), their clients and opposite parties. Bastiaan also advises listed companies and their shareholders on specific topics such as market abuse. His specific areas of attention include FinTech, alternative financing, institutional asset management, remuneration policy and, since recently, Brexit.
Bastiaan frequently assists clients with licensing and related projects with the financial supervisory authorities, the AFM and the DNB. If necessary, Bastiaan supports clients in disputes with those supervisory authorities. Clients value him for his efficient and pragmatic manner of working.
Bastiaan has had more than 20 years’ experience as attorney-at-law with large Netherlands and international law firms. For the first 17 years, Bastiaan practiced with Trenite Van Doorne and its legal successor, Simmons & Simmons. The last five years, Bastiaan worked at Houthoff.
Bastiaan is also a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam.
Bastiaan is a member of the Netherlands Financial Law Association (Vereniging voor Financieel Recht).
