Rutger's international litigation and consultancy practice mainly focuses on transport law (with an emphasis on road, air, and combined transport), insurance law, disputes concerning other logistic services (such as forwarding and warehousing) and liability. Rutger's extensive insurance law practice covers all sectors.

Rutger's clients include transport companies, logistics service providers, national and international insurance companies, insurance brokers and intermediaries. In short, he advises all players in the logistics chain, including insured parties.

Specialisations

In addition to all-round expertise in contract law, procedural law and attachment law, Rutger has specific experience and expertise in:
  • damage and liability issues regarding transport or warehousing goods: from quality deterioration to fire or theft;
  • disputes where transport law and insurance law coincide;
  • interpretation of complex insurance policy terms and conditions and disputes related to liability and other insurance issues;
  • drafting insurance policy terms and conditions;
  • recourse against parties responsible for damage;
  • disputes regarding professional and corporate liability;
  • disputes involving product liability.

Work experience

Rutger was sworn in as attorney-at-law in 1995. He started his career at DLA Piper, where he became a partner in 2001. In 2006, he transferred to Nysingh. Rutger joined Legaltree as a partner on 1 January 2023.
